In-toeing and Out-toeing

In-toeing/Out-toeing

Why do my child’s feet point in/out?

In-toeing and Out-toeing can cause your child’s feet to turn inwards or outwards when they walk and stand. Our Podiatrists understand that a child’s walking pattern changes dramitcally from their first few steps to adulthood, some of these changes are considered normal development. We are able to assess your child to make sure they are exactly as they are supposed to be for their age. If we do find anything out of the ordinary we are excellent at putting a treatment plan in place straight away to recitfy the problem.

Causes

In-toeing and out-toeing can have many different causes, such as the following:

  • Hips
  • Inward/Outward twist of the thigh bone (femur)
  • Inward/Outward twist of the leg bone (tibia)
  • Metatarsus Adductus
  • Altered hip position

Diagnosis

Our Podiatrists are able to test all of these causes and find out which one is responsible for your child’s in-toeing/out-toeing. We are then able to put a plan in place to help your child return to a more effective walking pattern.
